I have a confession.

I wasn’t planning on adding Trixie to the cover of Book 2. I didn’t think there would be space. But I’ve had a positive reaction to her not only on the cover, but also her involvement in the story.

So, she’s front and center.

There are plenty of cute piggy pics on the photo sites. But it took me hours to find the one for Book 1 and now this new one.

Originally, I wanted to use one with the piglet wearing a helmet (‘cos she rides with Seb and Max on the motorbike), but I couldn’t identify the source. And in the end, it was fine as that photo was a very different style to the one used in Book 1.

I hope you like Trixie with a flower in her hair.

Luckily, I’ve already sussed out one for the third and final book in the trilogy.

No more piglet photo hunts for me!

Warning! This is very rough. I just wrote it a few minutes ago, so apologies if it needs a lot of work.

Max rifled through the closet hoping to find something comfortable to wear while Seb rummaged in the fridge searching for things to make a meal. “There’s plenty to eat. Eggs and a packet of bacon.”
Both the alpha and the omega froze.
“Shit.”
“Seb, how could you?”
“I wasn’t thinking.”
“That’s so insensitive.”
“Forgive me if I’ve been a little preoccupied today.”
“We’re all on edge but…”
“Sorry.”
“You said the ‘B’ word,” Max hissed, ” So it’s not me who’s owed an apology.”
The pair glanced at Trixie huddled in the corner.
“My mistake. Sorry, little girl.”
Max scooped up the piglet and peppered her with kisses.

Here’s another question and answer from an author interview I did a month or so ago.

Q: What’s your writing schedule like?

A: I’m not a fast writer, and I’m the synonym queen! I’ll spend ages trying not to repeat something. Even when I know a particular English word doesn’t have many synonyms, I’ll check it anyway in case a new one has been created since I last checked!!!!

When I start a writing session, I always go back over what I did the previous day, and I’ll keep adding to it until I’m satisfied it’s a fully-rounded scene.

Though Max had left home a few years ago, his father had kept tabs on him. No matter what job he was working at or where he was living, he sensed he was being watched and though he hadn’t expected it, it didn’t surprise him. That’s how he operates. He can’t bear to lose something that belongs to him.
But being reminded of his family had Max rubbing the back of his neck and grinding his teeth. Forget them. Time for a shower.

This week’s snippet is from the beginning of Chapter 2. And just a reminder, I haven’t edited it or done a final read-through.

This place is amazing. Max stared at the lake through an open window. If my father could see me now. The thought made the omega poke his head outside. I hope he hasn’t got someone spying on me. But apart from animal noises and the lazy splashes of water hitting the shore, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Here’s something I wrote a while ago when I was asked the following question.

Q: Are you a plotter or fly by the seat of your pants kind of writer?

A: Definitely a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants writer. It’s interesting because in everything else I do, I’m so organized. But I can’t plan out a story. I just end up staring at the screen.

For example, when I started The Omega’s Triumph, I knew two things: 1) they would arrive in The Old Country; and 2) they would leave. That’s the beginning and end of the book. I had no clue as to what would happen in between.

As I write, I have ‘Ah-ha’ moments e.g. “Oh, my God, I can do that!”.

When I wrote the second last scene in ‘Triumph’ with Jake in the woods, the rest of the book was done. I’d done a grammar check and read through the completed chapters using text-to-speech (which I loathe).

I’d been avoiding that scene as I had no clue how he was getting from A to B. I started writing, then had to run an errand and while I was gone, I kept thinking, “That doesn’t work.” But when I got back and read what I’d done, it was fine. I added a few sentences and it was finished.

I’ve love to follow an outline as my way of writing can be stressful when I have to get myself out of a plot hole, but I’ve accepted it’s not going to happen.

Sebastian groaned and rubbed a palm over his pounding forehead. His shoulders ached and when he wriggled trying to get more comfortable, his back pressed against something hard. I’m never drinking again.
